Parents' maths skills

'Good numeracy is the best protection against unemployment, low wages and poor health' Andreas Schleicher, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

4 out of 5 adults in the UK are working at below the equivalent of C level in GCSE Maths. Around half the adult population are working at levels roughly equivalent to those expected of children at primary school.

Many adults feel very anxious about maths and try to avoid using it. These factors affect not only individuals' life chances, but can effect their children's too.

We've created the National Numeracy Challenge to break the cycle of poor numeracy and help everyone in the UK improve their everyday maths.

The National Numeracy Challenge

The National Numeracy Challenge is a national drive designed to improve adults' confidence and understanding of numeracy, in partnership with organisations across the UK, including businesses, schools, local authorities and unions.

Central to the National Numeracy Challenge is the Challenge Online, a free, confidential and easy to use website where adults can assess their numeracy skills, and be guided towards free online resources that support their needs.

Become a Challenge partner

Each Challenge partner receives a unique web-link to access the Challenge site. We can then provide data reports on useful information, such as engagement and overall numeracy levels within your organisation.

We can also provide materials to help promote the Challenge, and you'll have in office partner support too.

The Challenge is used successfully by schools wanting to offer maths support to their parents.
